From KFJC:

Mueller, Jon/Jason Kahn – “Topography” – [Xeric]
Percussionist John Mueller collaborates with Zürich-based sound and visual artist Jason Kahn. Recorded on tour in early 2007. Slow developing sounds, reverbing, feedbacking, resonating. Electro-acoustic and experimental. Very vibrating, you can even hear it bouncing off the snare drum heads. Meditation for aliens.

Lee, Okkyung – “I Saw The Ghost of an Unknown Soul and It Said…” – [Ecstatic Peace!]
Korean cellosist Okkyung Lee had been in music school since she was 3. Moving to NYC (LES) she found musical freedom. Her debut CD was released on Tzadik and she’s played along with such musicians as Nels Cline, Thurston Moore, Fred Frith, Zeena Parkins, John Zorn and many more. Crazy and furious cello playing here. Frantic and spazzy. Sounds with intent, always on path. Beautiful as is, or layered over a soft drone.

A Duo With Phantom Contributors

A recent I Heart Lung performance is reviewed.

I Heart Lung, a guitar-and-drums duo from Southern California, makes music of calm comportment and shadowy effect. Its style combines minimalist repetition, free-jazz epiphany, noise-rock fervor and drone-music mystique: an avant-garde connoisseur’s blend, unsteadily but endlessly percolating. That may sound esoteric and precious, but I Heart Lung was neither of those things during an immersive performance at Death by Audio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Tuesday night.

Musique Machine Reviews

From Musique Machine:

Beat Circus – Dreamland
Beat Circus boil up a rather potent mixture of junk band music, demented brass band work-outs, flamboyant and often doomy string work, old time jazz colours that have often quite a Jewish feel, sawing folk and the odd hint of off-kilter pop sensibilities. All to make Dreamland a rather pleasing and heady soundtrack for dreams of American freak shows and amusement park of the past, Victorian tragedies and general dark Americana.

LSD March – Under Milk Wood
Under milk wood sees LSD March return with the most approachable take on their distinctive sound thus far. It finds psyched & blissed-out electric guitar drifts meeting slowed post Velvet Underground riffing. Dabed with wonky and wavering folk and pop sentiments that are all tied together with an quirky and experimental ribbon.

The Antripodean Collective – Funcall
Funcall is the next chapter in improvised jazz four piece The Antripodean Collective’s heady and angler craft. Offering up 5 often lengthy, complex yet at times strangely skeletal and grim pieces.

Angel and Strings of Consciousness – Self Titled

This collaboration between Angel (which features members of Mum and Pan Sonic) and Strings of Consciousness offers up two lengthy 20 minute tracks of drone craft & atmospheric builds/falls
