Ray Bartkus – visualsTruly an all-star quartet: Fast Forward is a New York based composer who makes music with almost anything, but is known for his in-depth explorations of the Trinidadian steel pan and for his music-theatre works. David Moss is considered one of the most innovative singers and percussionists in contemporary music. Min Xiao-Fen is a Chinese pipa player and vocalist, working in traditional Chinese music, contemporary classical music, and jazz. And visual artist Ray Bartkus has been evolving new collaborations between artists and musicians.

Yet violinist Jason Kao Hwang is one player who navigates the contradictions with ease, and brings together yet another of his genre-bending ensembles. The EDGE quartet melds their individual experiences into a group that can swing hard, evoke the pentatonics and timbres of Asian music traditions or the edges of the blues, and push toward freedom.

What a cool line-up [no pun intended]! Moss is awesome, I know from personal experience, and the rest … Matamoros, Kao Hwang, etc. … well, it’s enough to make you want to move to NYC!
